When you are sitting at work in our cubicle and your boss asks, "Will you go down to Puerto Rico for a few days?', you always say "yes." It's no surprise that we are sent out on the road for work with only a moment's notice, but this time it wasn't to Van Wert, OH or Shoddy Daisy, TN or some other random town in the middle of nowhere. This was EXCITING!
After we
flew down and work was done, we stayed a few extra days for some R&R. We had a rental car, so we were able to explore the island, both the Atlantic and Carribbean coasts.
We drove to El Yunque National Rainforest and did some light hiking to la Cocca Falls. Feeling confident in our hiking abilities, we ventured out, deeper into the rainforest for a longer hike. The short 2-mile journey up to the summit of Mt. Britton did not take long to hike, but boy was it steep. The path winds through the damp Sierra Palm Forest, full of huge snails, plants, ferns and beautiful birds. The 100% humidity and a fog made us pour sweat and heave for a dry breath. But the view at the top: magical.
